red hats by DAMON WAYANS

I loved red hats by DAMON WAYANS. I did not want to stop reading it until the story ended. Alma is the main character. Alma is a woman who has a strong will. She is a black woman who knows how to make up her mind. She is not a push over. Well, may be a little bit when it comes to a new love entering her life. Her new guy is named James. He knows how to talk the type of talk that makes a woman smile all over herself.

Since he really knows how to love a woman gently, warmly and tenderly, Alma can not stop herself  from beginning to feel again. Alma is a widow. Her past marriage was not really happy. There is baggage she still deals with although Harold is dead. This is why she is careful about giving her heart to men and even to lady friends. Therefore, she does not plunk a red hat on her head and join the group immediately. Alma takes her time looking over the group of ladies with the velvet, sequined, feathered, diamond studded hats. In other words, Alma protects her heart like Imelda Marcos probably protected her shoes.

In the process of protecting her feelings, Alma becomes totally involved with the Red Hat group. She makes friends with Dee, Joy, Magdalena and Stacy, the lady with a very loyal son. Since the whole book is good, it is difficult to pick my favorite part. I loved the romance Alma shared with James. Topping that I gained a few lessons about how to treat one of my sons. I learned just because we're parents does not mean the book of wisdom and knowledge is packaged within us. In other words, parents do not know it all.

Since I have sons, I have a special heart for mothers with sons. The relationship between a mother and her son is very different from the one the son will have with his father. The relationships between mothers and sons is special like putting on one of those brocade, bright red, ruffled hats. It is a more than fine experience. It is experience a mother will cherish for the rest of her life. To round it all up I would say red hats by DAMON WAYANS is a book about opening your heart and let the love in because the love becomes nothing but sunshine.

"The Red Hats met in the lobby of the hotel at eleven thirty on the dot. They had all donned their red hats. People took pictures as they made their way through the casino like a flock of wild red geese."
