Wondrous Words

A Trail of Ink by MEL STARR

1. refectory
2. maslin

"Supper," he explained, and invited me to follow him to the (refectory).

A room where meals are served, especially in a college or other institution.
2.Scholars at Canterbury Hall are fed well, but simply. For this supper there were loaves of (maslin) - wheat and barley - cheese....

Composed of different sorts; as, maslin bread, which is made of rye mixed with a little wheat and barley - cheese... Bermudaonion

Great words. I think I've seen refectory. I wonder why we don't use that? Maslin is entirely new to me--sounds yummy, actually.

Your words sound elegant but homey. I'll bet the book is good too.

Maslin is totally new to me - I would have guessed it was a fabric.

I'm like Kathy and would have thought it was a fabric : in French "mousseline", but why here ?
I knew refectory, like "réfectoire" in French with the same meaning !
