I'm all wet from swimming the Hawaiian ocean. I've had a pineapple load of fun. I've also sipped one or two Mai Tais. Of course, along the way there were a couple of murders and kidnappings. Em Johnson is the main character. She comes from California to Hawaii to help her Uncle Louie run his Tiki bar. Almost immediately the bartender, Sophie, is suspected of murdering Harold, Uncle Louie's neighbor. Em does all she can to protect Sophie from the spying eyes of Detective Roland Sharp who is more than handsome and can swing fire flaming swords and dance at the same time.
"A police detective by day, he moonlighted as a fire knife dancer. The image of Roland Sharpe half naked, twirling long..."
Really, there is a lot of lei and hula shaking of the truth going on during the Hawaiian days and nights. While trying to solve the crime, I tried to keep my eyes glued on women wearing acrylic nails. That didn't help. I still couldn't figure out who was causing all the havoc on the island. I thought David Letterman, the Macaw might caw out a clue or two. Nope, he said two words between his hangovers. "Survivor, Survivor." That's all I got from David Letterman.
I really became interested in what was going on after Em found the femur in the file cabinet drawer. It was wrapped in burlap. Thank goodness Professor Nelg and his wife were on the island doing historical research. In the novel "Mai Tai One On" by Jill Landis there is much ado about nothing and much ado about everything. I learned to listen to Little Estelle as she drove her Gad-About back and forth and around. I am waiting anxiously for the next in the series. Hope no bodies are going to be thrown in the Imu.
