Rosh Hashanna
Yom Kippur
Jewish holy day: the holiest day of the Jewish year, on which Jews fast and say prayers of penitence.
1.She appeared first to Abe in the parlor, carrying a platter of dates, each wrapped delicately in a thin ribbon of bacon. It was Rosh Hashannah.
2.If Abe needed to coax the jacket off a man's back, he went into the negotiations without a scintilla of doubt.
3.....Also the gold wane of a Yom Kippur fast about to break.

I knew Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur since I've had quite a few Jewish friends. Scintilla is familiar, but I'm not sure I could have defined it.
Those were familiar to be, but very good words, I think. I like it when a book introduces me to a new culture with its own language.
My words are here.
Great words! Thanks for sharing. If you get a chance, mine are here.
I knew those words too, but could never have said when Rosh Hashanna or Yom Kippur were on. Scintilla is a fabulous sounding word I think.
I knew Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kippur but not Scintilla : a beautiful and charming word;
scintilla is new to me.. and i am sure going to use it .
I knew all of these, but then, I did several years of religious studies in college, so I guess that's not too surprising.
