D) doll house
When I heard about my first granddaughter, I knew she must have a doll house. Growing up I had dolls, but I never had a playhouse. I seriously started wanting one after growing up. Then, I decided a doll house would become my most special gift to my granddaughter. I could see my son building it for her. Then, in my dreams I could see her passing it on to her daughter in the future. So, I picked the doll house. I sent it to my son. He is waiting for our "real" doll to grow up a little bit more so that she will remember him putting it together. Best of all is that her daddy loves to use his hands. He won't look at the project with a frown and think it's work.
When he was a little boy, he made Origami birds, seals and fans too. His Origami pieces were put on display at the public library in a glass display case. I'm sure he will enjoy making the dollhouse with his little one beside him. I don't know why little girls enjoy doll houses so much. I guess it's as simple as wanting to pretend they are all grown-up in a pretty house that belongs to them. Perhaps, they have seen quilts on the beds at their grandma's house. In their own house, they have probably seen their father sit back in his favorite chair. Thank goodness for imagination and the ability to pretend ourselves in to other worlds. I don't think pretending will become outdated. Do you?
