Green

G)

When I think of The Wizard of Oz, all the colors in the story and movie come to mind. The cinderella red shoes, the yellow brick road and everything in The Emerald City where the Wizard lived. My thoughts of green are simple. First, I think of grass. Then, I think about green  symbolizes envy. Next, I think of Emerald City. If you hate the color green, it is very hard to read the book or look at the movie. I would love to know why Frank Baum chose to make the Wizard's home a rich green. After all, he could have made it purple, a sparkling silver or bright wine red to match Dorothy's shoes.

I doubt if Frank Baum hated the color green. I have a feeling he liked it. I enjoy green too. When I look at an emerald ring surrounded with diamonds, I become excited. I always gasp and say, " I want that ring. Give me that ring. Why can't I have that ring?" I also adore emerald necklaces. Those heavy pendants queens and rich people wore long ago were so gorgeous.

Green in the natural world attracts me too. I love the emerald green on the peacock. It looks like velvet which makes me think of a velvet cloak worn by a runaway princess in a romance or fairy tale. There is also the lushness of grass. Green grassy pastures just make me want to relax and lie down for a short nap that  will end with a sweet dream. Green grass, green trees just seem to go so well with the blue sky. It's a perfect match for the inner part of us needing to see beauty everyday.

Flowers

F)
I do believe flowers make our world prettier. Flowers also make people happy on special occasions. I live in an apartment with a patio. I have fun with container gardening. It continues to surprise me. Tomatoes, a sunflower, almost any growing flower or vegetable can grow in a pot. Also containers for pots are so pretty. I have driven through the country in spring and summer. I have seen gorgeous red, white, purple and pink petunias branching out of a tire rim. It's hard to notice the black tire because the flowers are so gorgeous.

Whenever I think of petunias, I think of Revolutionary Petunias by Alice Walker. I have never quite understood the poem. I like the poem because of it's density Revolutionary Petunias by Alice Walker.  There are many beautiful poems about flowers. Since this is National Poetry month, I'm going to take time out to gather more flowery poems to read while relaxing.

Anyway wherever you can contain and drain dirt there is a place for a marigold, dianthus, ivy, impatiens.  Believe it or not you can grow roses in a pot. My only recommendation is to buy very good soil. Then, buy a really quaint pot. Also, a watering pot which will sprinkle and not wet your flowers. Last, sit back and enjoy the wild range of colors and beautiful summery smells. Enjoy.
