Friday 56

The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil by VICTORIA CHRISTOPHER MURRAY

"How could you tell her to do that? You wouldn't give your husband up for money."

Book Beginnings

How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you would like, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be at A Few More Pages every Friday and will be open for the entire week.

The Deal, the Dance, and the Devil by VICTORIA CHRISTOPHER MURRAY

"Five Million Dollars.
All I could do was stare at the check. To be sure, I counted again: Seven figures, two commas. Yup, this was definitely five million."

The beginning of this novel shook me up immediately. It hooked me. The mention of such a large sum of money made me want to know whether the deal failed or succeeded. Very impressed by the book's beginnings.

THEME THURSDAY Male Person

  • A theme will be posted each week (on Thursdays)
  • Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
  • Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
  • It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
[Male Person]ENDLESS NIGHT BY AGATHA CHRISTIE

"Now don't flare up, ducks; you're not a mother hen protecting a chicken." I propelled her gently to the door in the wall that led into the bedroom. "Uncle Andrew wants to size me up," I said. "He's well within his rights."
