Book Beginnings

"There was a cold November wind blowing through 116th Street. It rattled the tops of garbage cans, sucked window shades out through the top of opened windows and set them flapping back against the windows; and it drove most of the people off the street in the block between Seventh and Eighth Avenues except for a few hurried pedestrians who bent double in an effort to offer the least possible exposed surface to its violent assault."

Very descriptive opening! I like the way it shows us the street and the weather. Presumably it moves next to a character within that weather, but we have a strong mood already at play. :)

Hi Hattie,

Wow! I haven't come across this authors name before, but it certainly sounds like a powerful story, as do many of her other books.

I love the descriptive writing and the attention to detail, with the cover art only adding to the drama and tension.

This is a bok that I shall definitely be adding to my list, so thanks for sharing.

Have a good weekend,

Yvonne

The weather doesn't sound at all pleasant but certainly sets a mood for this story. I would be interested to know what comes next.
